Pipeworks Brewing Co. – A Taste Buds Close Encounter

Hey fellow beer nerds, Andrew “The Beer Guy” Tessmer, checking in with a new Brewery Spotlight. This time I’ll be telling you a little more about the brewery and their beers we carry at BeerSauce Shop.

Pipeworks Brewing Co. was established in Chicago, IL in 2012 by friends who loved crafting quality and creative beers. Since putting the first cap on the first bottle, the brewery has been embraced for its distinctive beers and original artwork.

Pipeworks was for a long time available only in the Chicago market, but in 2019 Craft Republic Distributing teamed with Pipeworks to distribute their sought after beers, which include Ninja vs. Unicorn, Blood of the Unicorn, Infinite Citra, Lizard King and a ton more. We’ll discuss these beers that’ll tickle your taste buds shortly.

My first experience with Pipeworks Brewing Co. was at 4 Hand’s Lupulin Carnaval in 2013 where they were pouring Double Unicorn Revenge Double IPA and Close Encounter Extra Hoppy Double Stout. After Double Unicorn Revenge touched by taste buds, I knew this would be a brewery I’d follow in the coming years and low and behold, I went on to open BeerSauce Shop and would have the opportunity to stock Pipeworks beers!

Pipeworks Ninja vs. Unicorn | Double IPA | 8% ABV | 150 IBU

Ninja Vs. Unicorn celebrates the epic battle between two of the biggest hop-heads of lore. Brewed with over five pounds of hops per barrel, this unfiltered double IPA is sure to please the most discerning hop lover. Whether you’re rooting for the mythical horned horse or the deadly assassin of the east, you’ll enjoy Ninja Vs. Unicorn.

 

Pipeworks Blood of the Unicorn | 6.5% ABV | 69 IBU

In this epic battle, the Blood of the Unicorn has been shed by the sword of the deadly assassin of the east. One sip of this aggressively hopped red ale clearly reveals what drives these, the greatest of, hop heads of lore. Is this the end of the mythical horned horse? Or will he rise like the phoenix to fight another day?

Pipeworks Lizard King | 6% ABV | 36 IBU

Lizard King is light, crisp and refreshing. Mosaic hops make for one tropical, citrusy, and piney pale that gets our mojo risin’.

 

These Beers are always shipped fresh to our distributor, Craft Republic, on a regular basis. As well as shipping these “core beers” regularly, Pipeworks Brewing Co. also sends Craft Republic, and by way BeerSauce Shop, a whole buncha’ really cool limited release beers. In the past we’ve received:

S’more Money, S’more Problems | A 10% Imperial Stout with graham crackers, cacao nibs, vanilla bean, marshmallow and cinnamon.
Velocity of Light | A 7% Double dry-hopped oat IPA with Galaxy, Mosaic, and Cyro-Mosaic hops.
Donut Soup |  A 10.5% Imperial Stout with lactose, cacao nibs, vanilla, coffee and coconut.
Your Brain On Brunch | A 10.5% Imperial milk stout ale with maple syrup, lactose, fenugreek, and vanilla.
Spumoni Jones Dog | An 8.5% Chocolate milk stout with cacao, vanilla bean, pistachio, and cherry.

I am a huge fan of all of the hop-forward brews from Pipeworks, and their adjust stouts are right up there, too! A well versed, experimental brewery that can brew a solid based beer and soup it up with hops or fun ingredients like coffee, vanilla, pistachios and more.
